Applying fabric manipulation on handbags.

Soft Goods SolidworksCLO3D

EXPLORATION CONCEPT

Explore the manipulation of fabric both physically and digitally.

USING CLO3D

Testing out texture patterns and seeing how the size of fabric affect the texture.

The smaller piece (left) achieved the desire texture, the texure also formed the fabric into a pringle shape. The bigger piece is too soft and wrinkly.

CUSTOM CLO3D AVATAR

Modeling the bag body form in SolidWorks and importing into CLO3D to use as avatar for pattern making.

PATTERN MAKING

Using the flatten tool in CLO3D to quickly generate a rough pattern, then clean up manually by tracing and merging.

PLAIN PROTOTYPE

Testing pattern assembly using flat fabric.

FINAL TEXTURE APPLICATION

After receiving critiques from peers and instructor, larger areas of texture were applied to the bag faces.

FINAL MAKING PROCESS

After receiving critiques from peers and instructor, larger areas of texture were applied to the bag faces.

The decided texture was printed out and used as stencil to transfer onto the fabric.
After manipulating the fabric, a cut out stencil was used to trace out the pattern piece.
An extra piece was needed to make the tying straps.
The exterior and lining were sewn separately.
Then attached by the opening edge.
